Review: Following the drama that was Brandy’s vehicular accident and the sham marriage revealed, Brandy has seemed to make her presence and feelings known as to where she stands on everything. Most of the album sounded like an apology put to music; Human has attempted to address most (if not) everything she has gone through in her personal life and career. Too bad it stayed under the radar as garbage music flooded the airwaves. Noted as not one of her strongest albums, Human still delivers on quality and has been slept on by the industry. Long Distance stood out from the album and closely behind was Camouflage.
Also worthy of mentioning were Fall, 1st and Love, and Something’s Missing. The album seemed to almost reach what Brandy normally delivers but took a turn for different. Not a bad thing if you can hit the right target. On a few tunes the music never matched up to the lyrics or expectations. Piano Man was not a strong favorite as I felt the album could have done without the shout out to the piano man. Was not sure why he needed one. There were not many songs I fast-forwarded through besides Piano Man. This album was not one to ignore as it gave good music and stories
Right Here (Departed) was a song that took to change well. Brandy was able to come with a dance beat and her vocals were strong. The lyrics seem to speak on how folks feel alone through the darkest times in their lives, but there is someone who vows to be by their side. Torn Down was a good song but need stronger music to accompany it. At some parts I felt the music over powered her vocals, and that’s never a good sign.
Not deemed the best singer in my book, Brandy seems to have given her all, but will that be enough to draw fans back to a star questioning her will to stay in the W.O.S.? This album got 7.5 blades because although I like Brandy, the project as a whole did not meet the expectations I have for her. Aphrodisiac and Full Moon had “different sounds” and they were stronger albums.
