Rowland Finally Sheds Destiny’s Cursed Shadow

Album: Here I Am

Official Drop Date: July 22, 2011
GradeA
Blade(s): 9
Bottom-line: Very nice attempt at stepping out of Destiny’s Child’s shadow
Review: Kelly Rowland has not had luck with a power album since the disbanding of Destiny’s Child – a group that has seen almost as many line-up changes as The Supremes. Rowland has had hit singles, but never an album. Her last two were flops that should have never seen the light of day. It was a financial waste (both for consumers & the industry. Thankfully someone dismissed the hit blocker & now Rowland has successfully made an album worth purchasing for more than kitty litter or a coaster.

This album was packed with pop tracks that had me amped but I could have done without Motivation. That shit was a tutorial, remedial style, How to Fuck – You Can Do It! With lines such as “You’re almost there,” “You can do it, I believe in you baby,” and “Go, go, go, go.” It was just a sad bag of crap to hear. ‘Go, go, Gadget Dick!’. Aside from that tune, the project was worth listening to & purchasing. 9 blades and an A.
