Bottom-line: Decent but music gets redundant.

Review: Despite how hard her handlers try, Nicki Minaj is nothing new – simply re-designed. With the “beef” between her and Lil’ Kim * Lawd knows which other female rappers, much attention has been brought to the similarities between Minaj & Kim. Kim was part of the new generation of female rappers in her time, but far from being the first lady of rap or the first one to bring it hardcore. Same as Minaj is not the first to bring something “different” to the game. Other than pushing the Barbie image back into the lime light, Minaj is far from an innovator in those terms.

Her rap skills are good, but still, the overall feel is not new. Minaj is in the right place at the right time. At this time Lil’ Kim hasn’t done much in the industry and the young kids now are excited about the collabo game Minaj brings. All that said, Pink Friday has some good tracks. Would I listen to them a month from now probably not, but at this rate at least three songs have been played out months before the album has even dropped so I just skipped those. The bonus tracks were cute but no urge to listen to them again on my end. I prefer albums from artists that star – well – the artists. Heavily guest starred projects do little for me as the main attraction has little time to shine.

Pink Friday will be purchased by those who don’t want to let go of the Black Barbie Movement, but for those not sure of Minaj, she has some rap skills and the disappointment level on this album is low. It’s worth a spin in a listening booth at the very least. 7 blades and a B-.
