New Kids on the Block: Merry, Merry Christmas
There was once a time where artists could not release an album without finding time to release a Christmas album. New Kids were no exception. They wanted to put their flavor on a few classics while showing their dedication to issues that were meaningful to them at the time. The fun was displayed in Funky, Funky Christmas (another rap song) and it was one to be heard whenever fans were around for the holidays.
This One's For the Children showed dedication for children of the world and their cause. Following the album and dictated by popularity, the guys had a Christmas episode for their cartoon series. This show showcased songs from the Christmas album as the other episodes showcased the other albums.
The Christmas album was a decent pick for me but as the dream of what Christmas should be died when the falsehoods of ideology were produced I was listening to the songs less frequently for that Christmasy feeling and more because there were good ones to be heard. Chestnuts Roasting was a great rendition with enough twist that it was not annoying but different enough that I could enjoy the different versions. White Christmas allowed Jonathan Knight to shine as The Little Drummer Boy gave recognition to Danny Wood's vocals.
This album gets a steady7 blades due to my jadedness towards the season and for great songs despite that.
