End of an Empire

Album: Bridging the Gap

Artist(s): Black Eyed Peas

Official/Original Drop Date: September 26, 2000

Grade: B

Blade(s): 8

Bottom-line: Decent project

Review: This was the second album dropped by the group Black Eye Peas (B.E.P.) and it was one of their stronger albums. With their attempt to keep the life of Hip Hop alive, they gave a great mix of consciousness and good music. Hot (ft. Kim Hill) is just one of the tracks that had me grooving to the group I once loved; before they turned commercial in order to “eat.”

The group did strong collabos with multiple artists including Mos Def, Les Nubians, De La Soul, Macy Gray and Chali2na (formerly of Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli). The stand outs were Hot (ft. Kim Hill), Bridging the Gaps, BEP Empire, Release, Weekends (ft. Esthero), Bringing It Back, Get Original (ft. Chali2na), and Request + Line (ft. Macy Gray). The hidden version of the BEP Empire remix track was worth waiting for also. 8 blades and a B for what seems to be the last project I’ll enjoy from B.E.P.
