Synopsis: Sookie Stackhouse is a small-time cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. She’ s quiet, keeps to herself, and doesn’t get out much. Not because she’s not pretty. She is. Its just that, well, Sookie has this sort of “disability”. She can read minds. And that doesn’t make her too dateable. And then along comes Bill. He’s tall, dark, handsome — and Sookie can’t hear a word he’s thinking. He’s exactly the type of guy skids been waiting for all her life….

But Bill has a disability of his own: His a vampire with a bad reputation. He hangs with a seriously creepy crowd, all suspected of–big surprise–murder. And when one of Sookie’s coworkers is killed, she fears she’s next…

Review: After finding interest in the True Blood series and Sookie Stackhouse’s friend, Loretta, I decided to finally read the book that started it all – two years later. The book was definitely more graphic than the televised cable series and that is a bit surprising being that the televised version was a bit graphic every now and then. The book was a bit more interesting but not by much. I’m from the Anne Rice and Bram Stoker’s School of Vampires and still love their versions over most. This book will keep a reader entertained and leave very little to the imagination. Sookie Stackhouse can be a bit draining as the main character who has been sexually molested as a child by her uncle and is telepathic. I’m still torn on who is more annoying: the television version or the book. Eight more books to go so I’ll find out soon enough 6.5 bookmarks.
