Abuse: The story of a Fan

print bootlegged article

We are here at the secret location to speak to the Fan who is willing to risk everything in order to unveil the undercover world of abuse that many Fans go through in the industry. Unbeknown to the audience or other unsuspecting Fans the abuse is wide spread and blatant. Here is the story of abuse direct from a fan.

SwitchBlade: Good morning and thanks for being brave enough to do this interview with Bootlegged Reviews.

Fan: Thank you for being so kind and allowing me to have my say without judgment. I know how Bootleggers can get.

SB: well we are all here for a better understanding towards truth.

F: Thanks.

SB: so let’s begin. How did you get involved with the industry?

F: at first I didn’t realize that I got “involved.” I was brought in to perform a duty and I guess I was just really good. Before I knew it I had a career and was on tours.

SB: did you enjoy your work then?

F: oh yes, I loved it. My friends and family would see a celebrity and knew I was involved with making them look good.

SB: then were did it all go wrong? Why the allegations of abuse? I say allegations because no other fan has spoken out as yet.

F: well, there are small pockets of revolutions here and there but no one wants to be seen as useless so they work; not knowing what else to do. I sometimes still love my job but it has gotten to the point where the abuse becomes so overwhelming. Sometimes I breakdown out of sheer sadness.

SB: was there any one particular event that stood out for you as the start of your breaking point?

F: well I think they all contributed at some point, but one that stands out is when I was at one of the most recent major awards show and was expected to blow at an artist that was simply standing in place. Now it was bad enough that they wanted me to do this in concerts, commercials, and interviews. Now they were demanding it be done at award shows. I was exhausted from the tours and other obligations. It just felt unfair.

SB: but most would say that you were getting compensated so wasn’t that a fair enough exchange?

F: Compensated? If that’s what u called compensation. Time off every now and then, especially if they could get a stand-in and even then no friggin’ acknowledgment. Shit Switch, everyone gets acknowledged from a damn hairdresser to the dude who picked out the underwear. But what about the fan? Huh!? What about the fan. We work too! Shit, we work through all the garbage, bad singing and dancing. Day in and day out. We deserve to be acknowledge. Not even a fucking Thank You?

SB: so is that what all these allegations are about, a “thank you,” “acknowledgment?” Are you trippin’ on speed or some super drug right now?

F: trippin? Switch I’m telling you how many of us fans feel right about now. I’m pouring out my heart to your crew and Jorge is in the back laughing.

SB: no, no. (Jorge leave). It’s not that anyone of us are laughing at you, but let’s face it. You blow celebrities for a reason. That’s your job. So are you saying that you and other celeb fans want acknowledgment for blowing celebs?

F: we do more than blow celebrities. We make those fuckers look good!

SB: now I’m sensing hostility with my third eye. Is there a particular celebrity that you believe to have abused you the most?

F: there are too many to name Switch. One has a hit currently on the charts and there are others who have worked with her that feel abused as well.

SB: So we’ve heard. We’re trying to lock in an exclusive with them as well. So what do you expect to gain from this interview as your legal name has been left out? Do you think this may only open a new channel of abuse on your entire industry of workers?

F: right now I’m just wishing for equality. Proper recognition from the entertainment world. At least the respect that us fans deserve. We deserve the respect any one else in this industry gets when an artist get accolades. Would you call in a master to do tasks for servant pay…

SB so hold up, did this just turn into a slave/master/monetary moment? I feel a shift from abuse to money.

F:I think they are all one in the same. Blacks have…

SB: wait, are you comparing the plight of Blacks to the plight of fans?

F: why not, homosexuals and PETA do it all the time?

SB: PETA? I’ll get in that ass after research but as for fans, that just doesn’t sound Kosher. I don’t remember any fans hanging off trees from rumors; or being separated from loved one through ignorance. So let’s not go there or I’ll end the interview.

F: Fine, we have not traveled the same historical road…

SB: damn right we haven’t…

F: but we are going through similar ignorance

SB: look, bottom line, in what way do you hope to improve the industry and how they use fans?

F: use us in ways that will not only improve the artists’ careers but ours too? We fans live to serve and blow on all who need us. But don’t simply abuse us because we’re there. We have feelings too.

SB: so you want them to be more considerate of your feelings? You do know you’re fans? To be plugged in, turned on and expected to blow the hair or shirt of whatever artists that may demands it of you.

F: that’s the problem, people think that because they see us an inanimate objects we don’t have feelings. But we do. Haven’t you seen Toaster? That toaster cared about that little boy and traveled until he found him again.

SB Are you explaining a cartoon to me?

F: are you having an undercover interview with a fan?

SB: touche

F:so at the end of the day respect is expected.

SB: what’s the next step to get that respect.

F: well there will be an anti-abuse rally soon. We’re still in the stages of planning it but we are sending out avatars and pictures via the Internet to help spread the word. Many have begun to ban videos, concerts, and dvd viewings that display the blatant abuse of fans. There a couple of artists in particular that we are gunning for right now that show no remorse.

SB: can you name one or two?

F: not yet Switch. I would not want to damage the movement as we are still in our early stages and these artists have a tendency to be vindictive. Plus we need to weed out the weak fans who may become easy turncoats and try to dismantle the movement from the inside.

SB: true. So many movements fail to learn that lesson. So besides releasing this interview, how else can Bootlegged Reviews help your cause?

F: simply by spreading the word against the abuse. Help us minimize how folks think of us in a neglectful way. Get those avatars out as signs the masses are willing to help.

SB: you know that there will be backlash as no movement goes on without it. Are you all prepared for that?

F: at this point Switch, we’re prepared for a lot of things as our history has proven our resilience.

SB: what do you want those fans out there who want to enter the industry but may be fearful now of the abuse or possibly lack of work?

F: there will never be lack of work as long as there are outside concerts. We must stay strong and demand respect as we’ve always given nothing but our best. Why settle for less in return? Not all aspects of the industry is abusive, it just seems that the music industry has lost its mind.

SB: with that said, thank you for doing this interview and being open about what is happening to fans in the entertainment industry.

F: thank you Switch and please keep hope alive.

stopfanabuseWith that quote leaving me partially speechless this is SwitchBlade asking that you report any Fan Abuse that you may witness and get the word out there to stop the madness.
