“Designing Women” actress Dixie Carter, who appeared both on Broadway and in television, has died at 70. She appeared on Diff’rent Strokes as the sassy Southern stepmother (Maggie) of one, but was best known for her role as the sassy, Southern interior decorator, Julia Sugabaker on the very popular “Designing Women.” Other notable shows were Law & Order: SVU and Desperate Housewives. she was survived by her husband Hal Holbrook, her daughters, and other family.
